Get a behind-the-scenes look as one of New York’s most innovative choruses prepares for the creative collision of Monteverdi’s beloved Madrigals of Love and War and newly written works of classical and folk music. Let Director Thomas Cunningham pull back the curtain on this extraordinary artistic collaboration in a TED-style talk featuring live performances and fascinating interviews.

Composer Patrick Castillo has created two new works for chorus and Baroque instrumental ensemble inspired by Monteverdi’s masterwork, and singer-songwriter Jaymay has written two new love songs based on the poetry of Monteverdi’s madrigals.

This program follows last season’s successful merger of the Schütz Requiem and new music by Alarm Will Sound founder Caleb Burhans, and is part of a multi-year effort by the MCE to re-examine classic works of the past through the lens of contemporary composition. This is a unique opportunity to have a front row seat as today’s creative minds explode and reconstruct history’s towering musical masterpieces.
